Position Title

Transtar, LLC – Supervisor of Asset Management

Location: Pittsburgh, PA

Since the late 1800’s, the Transtar companies consist of a group of rail carriers have been an important component in this country’s industrial development. Moving billions of tons of raw materials to manufacturing sites. Transporting finished products to market. Storing and handling bulk commodities. Providing rail transport services to hundreds of satisfied customers throughout the nation’s industrial heartland.

The Supervisor Asset Management will assist in asset management-related activities for the Transtar companies and the administration and control of the transactions and processes pertaining to procurement, inventory management, non-core asset sales, real estate, fleet management, etc.  Focus is on the control of costs related to all company assets, specifically around the acquisition of goods and services, and the maximizing of revenue generated from real estate and non-core asset sales and leases.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate, review and approve all goods and services purchases
  • Establish key supplier relationships and maintain those relationships to ensure proper cost controls
  • Monitor markets pertaining to key goods and services and develop appropriate sourcing strategies
  • Provide guidance and oversight for inventory management as it pertains to the supply and usage of goods that are managed across the properties
  • Coordinate the sales and leases of non-core assets and scrap material to maximize revenue
  • Assist with various activities related to the management, sale, acquisition, third-party use, etc. of Transtar real estate assets
  • Coordinate all activities required to properly manage the Transtar vehicle fleet with focus on right-sizing, efficient utilization, reliability, and control of total cost of ownership
  • Provide feedback and input into the development and execution of company strategies as it pertains to areas of responsibility
  • Assist with all other activities as identified related to the management of company assets or the broader Legal, Compliance, Asset Management, and Risk Management department


  • Minimum of 2 years Supply Chain/Procurement experience
  • Bachelors Degree in a business related field or a non-business degree with 4 to 5 years equivalent experience.
  • Commercial Real Estate experience preferred
