Gary Railway Company (GRW) started operations as a result of the acquisition of the Elgin Joliet and Eastern Railway Company (EJE) by the Canadian National Railroad. GRW is a Class III switching carrier and operates on 63 miles of Yard Track at Gary, IN.
GRW provides rail transportation service to U. S. Steel's Gary Works, as well as four other customers located inside the USS Gary complex:
- ArcelorMittal USA - Steel Plate Mill
- Tube City IMS, LLC
- Brandenburg Industrial Service Company
- South Shore Slag, LLC
GRW interchanges with CN at Gary, IN and has revenue interchanges with the Class I carriers that interchange along the lines of the EJE.
History
Gary Railway Company (GRW), a Class III switching carrier, began operations on February 1, 2009, as a result of the Canadian National Railroad's acquisition of the Elgin Joliet and Eastern Railway Company (EJE). GRW operates on 63 miles of Yard Track at Gary, IN.
GRW serves U.S. Steel's Gary Works and four other customers located inside the USS Gary Works complex: ArcelorMittal USA - Steel Plate Mill, Tube City IMS, Brandenburg Industrial Service and South Shore Slag, LLC.
